Coir pith and coir fiber serve different applications, with different EC tolerances. Each product covers a specific range of water holding and aeration. See the recommendation by crop.
Product by application
Seedlings and nurseries
Coir pith is widely used as a substrate for forestry, fruit and ornamental seedling production. The material's structure provides good water holding, adequate aeration and physical stability: three properties that matter for early rooting.
Most Brazilian nurseries operate at medium EC and apply controlled fertigation, which allows the natural (unwashed) grade to be used as long as the lot is within the limits of the irrigation protocol.
Vegetables and fruit
Used as a base or component in substrates for tomato, strawberry, lettuce and other high-value crops in protected cultivation. Coir pith replaces peat and other imported inputs with a shorter supply chain.
For salt-sensitive crops we offer the washed grade (EC below 0.7 mS/cm) and, for committed volume, the buffered grade (EC below 0.5 mS/cm, Ca/Mg treated). The natural grade covers most applications under fertigation.
Landscaping and mulch
The application with the highest tolerance to EC variation. Coir pith as bed cover, planter base and a component of topsoil blends. Long coir fiber as mulch, slope protection and moisture retention in green areas.
Natural dilution by rain and surface irrigation reduces EC over time, which makes the natural material well suited to landscaping without prior washing.
Substrate manufacturers and blenders
For companies that buy raw material and formulate their own substrates, we supply coir pith and coir fiber as industrial inputs with technical documentation per lot. The manufacturer receives EC, pH, moisture and bulk density for every delivery, the data needed to keep their own recipe consistent.
The EC ceiling is fixed in the contract. A lot outside the standard does not ship. For export, compressed blocks and bales are available on committed volume, shipped via the Port of Pecém.
Pots and industrial fiber
Long bristle fiber as an industrial raw material for moulded pots, geotextiles and erosion-control blankets, mattress pads, automotive composites and pressed fiber parts. The fiber retained on the rotary screen has the length and mechanical strength needed for forming and moulding.
EC is less relevant in this application because the material does not stay in prolonged contact with roots in a moist medium. The technical focus is on tensile strength, flexibility and uniformity of length.
